Simplest BSP Format to Load?

Hi! Digging into BSP trees, map formats. Whats the simplest BSP format one can load, to start messing arround with it? Quake 2? 3? Half Life? Salsa cooked it, your eyes eat it!

I think Quake 3, where you can skip the parts you don''t want yet, like fog and curved surfaces.

Quake 3 just stores faces which it later renders with a triangle fan.
Quake 1 and its derivatives (half-life) store faces as a list of triangle edges, which are two 3d points. This is used for software rendering, but makes everything a bit more complex.
