image conversion tool
I'm making a graphics conversion tool that will support plugins that will be used to convert images. It will first turn the image into text, then it will turn it into another image format. Right now I need somebody who knows the uncompressed BMP inside-out to help me. If you are interested in adding a format or helping with the misc. issues, please reply or email me at yohomyth@hotmail.com .
Here comes the Thnikkaman!

It sounds like you''re trying to re-invent the wheel to me. There are already great programs out there for doing this. IrfanView for PC and GraphicConverter for Mac are two I recommend.
Why on earth would you want to use a text-based intermediary format anyway?

ImageMagick is awesome for file format conversions. it''s also console based for easy inclusion into other programs.
Why text?? A raw bitmap with or without a pallette would seem the most efficient initial conversion.
If you don''t know the formats of the images you want to process, are you not putting the cart before the horse?
Also, if you''re planning plugins, why not concentrate on the interface and invite others to contribute a plugin for the BMP instead of worrying about it now?
Were I undertaking a task like this, I''d have each plugin do two jobs:- Write a raw bitmap from the relevant format, and convert a raw bitmap into that format.
This way, a conversion will consist of 2 plugins communicating via your very simple interface.

Don''t follow me, I''m lost.

^ You''re definitely right about that.
I know there''s already conversion tools out there, but i can''t find any with plugin support. That''s why started this thread. If you can find one with plugin suport, please post it. Any help is appreciated.

For the most common formats, i.e. gif, png, jpg, bmp, and a few others I can''t remember, Windows already has GDI+ which can be easily used to convert from one of its supported formats to any other of its supported formats.
