Planet Atmosphere

What method would you all advice I look into, to generate a realistic atmosphere around my rendered planets (currently just textured speheres). One method I did try was making a second sphere, with the same origin as the planet and used blending to make it transparent, let''s just say the effect was rubbish, with whatever settings I tried . If anyone has some good ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Ad

Well you could go for something simple like a bilboarded blended texture over your planets to simulate atmosphere or you could take a look at this paper. I haven''t actually read it but it may help you out.
