OpenGL rain effect
create a particle emmiter above the eye and then create projresivly lower quality emmiters in a cone in front of the eye. also you might want to try over lays or masking or wahtever.
First way i make rain using blurred lines,
and second way using particles. Effects is cool! But i''m interesting in rain effect similar with rain in 3D Mark 2003...

spawn a animated 3d model of a splash on the normal at random locations, with a spawn rate of that of the rain and a density of that of the rain. you'll never notice the difference unless you sitting around looking for hours.
