Can you animate bitmaps or render to bitmap?
Because my program has very little animation I want to just animate stuff using a series of sprites. So I need to have a bitmap with lots of little pics inside.
What software can do this. I''ve got blender for 3d modelling but I think thats over the top. I just need a sequence of bitmaps....
thanks

Hi craig, I had to make a program to do this for me. I also use Blender. My program will take a series of bitmaps, such as the ones Blender spits out, and will compile them into a single bitmap. Give me a few minutes to put the program on my webspace. Also, what part of GA are you in?

Ok here is the link:
Sprite Builder
I made it quick and dirty so its not totally user friendly. The bitmaps need to be in the same folder as the executable. Click "Insert Files" and it will list all of the bitmaps. Also the bitmaps need to be powers of 2. Put in how many rows and columns you want and the name of the compiled bitmap. Click "Build" and the output bitmap will be created in the same folder as the executable. Let me know how it works. I will be adding more features such as the ability to choose the bitmaps through a File Dialog. Also it would be nice to be able to change the order of the images. I see a nice visual editor for this where you can drag the images around and actually preview the final compiled bitmap.

Yeah, if you have an animation in Blender and you hit animate, it will spit out a series of bitmaps: 0001.bmp 0002.bmp etc. One for each frame.
I''m in Stockbridge.

Oops, it will spit out targa or jpg, but no bmp. Sorry. But you can use a program like Irfan view to do a batch conversion on the jpgs or tgas and covert them to bmp.
