how do I add a project to Visual Studio.NET that simply outputs a .lib? I mainly want to do this just to organize my files into projects, but I still only want one primary output, the executable.

From the New Project dialog select a C++ Win32 Project. In the dialog that follows click "Application Settings" and then select the static library radio button.

thanks. I had been looking for the option in the new project dialog, no wonder I couldn''t find it :D
