if its 2d ur after, DX8.1 or 8 have direct draw and all the goodies for 2d work. i use it with no trouble. setting it up is all it takes, and that isnt too hard. once set up the right way, u dont even have to worry about it - just ur game code

DX9 still has DirectDraw does''nt it? I want to use DD and DirectSound.

Yes. DX by design contains every feature and function it has ever contained. The whole purpose is that anything that uses any prior version will work with new version. It''s one of the nice things about DCOM

Thats a very broad question. MSVC is far from the only compiler out there. Depending what platform is being targeted, they could be using MSVC, GCC, Codewarrior, Borland, or a dozen others.

For windows, MSVS is probably the most popular, but if step away from that...
