Hi guys! We've just released version 0.9.12 of the open-source (GPL License, i.e. you get the source, you can copy and redistribute this, and of course, you can help with the development too) graphical single player role playing game FreedriodRPG. Comments and feedback would be very much appreciated. We've got a mailing list with address freedroid-discussion@lists.sourceforge.net. The project home page is located at freedroid.sourceforge.net. The Sourceforge project page can be accessed under http://sourceforge.net/projects/freedroid/. The download for Windows and Linux from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=54521&package_id=58238 or by simply clicking the following screenshot The game also comes with a built-in level editor, a dialog editor and an items editor. The game is released under the GNU General Public license. Unfortunately we've not yet succeeded in porting the dialog editor or the item editor to the Windows operating system family. The GTK+ does give us some problems with Cross-compiling. So: IF YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH CROSS-COMPILING GTK+ APPLICATIONS AND WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP OUT WITH THE CROSS-COMPILE, PLEASE DO CONTACT US. THANKS A LOT! Thanks a lot for your attention and see ya, the FreedroidRPG dev team. Another known issue: There is a problem with certain S3 video cards in OpenGL mode, which we haven't yet completely figured out. If you get an error message like "GL_INVALID_ENUM" at game startup (when OpenGL mode is selected), you might try to replace the game executable freedroidRPG.exe with the one you can get from here: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/freedroid/FreeDroid/freedroidRPG.exe But with most cards and OpenGL drivers, it should work "out of the box". The speeches take up way too much space and are probably unnecessary. You could have 2 versions, one with speeches and one without (for the 56k'ers).

The thing is that with our current compression methods, and those are now rather close to optimal already, the whole sound, including speeches, effect, everything, takes up 15 megs. We might be able to get the download size down to 45 megs without the sounds. Hmmm, would that really make a difference to you?
Otherwise, well, I can send you a CD in the mail instead (and for free!) and put the CVS repository on it as well. That might be less work for me. But if you insist, I'll make a sound-less release file too.

No problem. The mail service doesn't charge much here. If you like, you might send your opinion in return. The feedback is very valuable and worth more than mailing costs. I'd need a mail address though, best just so I can print it out and stick it right on the envelope. For this, my private email address is johannesprix and then the at symbol and then users.sourceforge.net. See ya, jp.
