Hi! I would like to know if there is some way to play videos in my game engine without using platform-especific resources like Microsoft''s DirectShow (my game should run on Windows, Linux and, why not, Mac . Any file format is ok for me (MPEG, AVI, MOV, whatever). Actually I''m programming in C++, OpenGL and SDL. Thanks in advance!

I have used ffmpeg (you can just Goggle for it) to play Videos to texture files on Windows & Linux Using both OpenGL and D3D9 - by use of OGRE (www.ogre3d.org).

I have been working on a Video PlugIn for OGRE. It is currently a work in progress, but it compiles easily (On Windows) with latest OGRE cvs. You can check out this topic at OGRE forums for a link to download my plugin. It should give you an idea of how to do what you want. You can also look at the examples that come with ffmpeg download. ffmpeg supports multiple codecs - but my plugin only really supports mpeg2 audio/video streams.

No problem.

That plugin I mentioned is now available from ogreaddons CVS (should also be in Ogre download section in ogreaddons download). I''ve loosely based it off of ffplay.c (an example app that comes with ffmpeg), in case you want to see how I used that lib.
