University rights regarding software

Recommended Posts

Hi. Over the course of this last semester I've become moderately aware that my university has some kind of prior right upon any work I do as a student of this university. I am aware that this is probably different for different universities and states across the united states. However; I would like a general idea of what your university's policy are and whether you ran into problems concerning these policies, and how you dealt with them if said came up. I'm talking with the profs here at my uni concerning doing work on a project next year(Not senior design), and I'd basically like to know whether it would have any potential as a project I could take with me when I leave the uni. Thanks much; -V'lion [edit typos XD] [edited by - Vlion on April 22, 2004 2:41:04 AM]

As a general rule, work you do for a class project or for any other activity for which you recieve university credit is owned by the school. Also, in general, commercial work on university machines is prohibited.
