Engine for turn based rpg
I’m doing a little research for a school project (I’m writing a document on game design together with some other students) and I was wondering if there was any game engine which is suitable for making a turn based rpg in a 3d environment (like Final Fantasy X or Grandia 2).
I know that some game designers can be very creative when it comes to using certain game engines (I’ve heard that Lineage 2 has been created with the Unreal engine for example), so I assume that it should be possible to use a game engine which wasn’t intended for rpg’s (for experienced programmers that is).
Does anyone have any further information on this?
Off subject, I always find turn base comical...
player -> "I hit you, and now you hit me."
monster -> "BAHH!" (hits you and loose 2 HP) "Now you hit me!"
player-> (Smack, 3 HP) "Take that! Your turn! dont hit too hard!"
monster -> "RAAH!"
player -> "I hit you, and now you hit me."
monster -> "BAHH!" (hits you and loose 2 HP) "Now you hit me!"
player-> (Smack, 3 HP) "Take that! Your turn! dont hit too hard!"
monster -> "RAAH!"

lol. ATB made it alot better.
player -> "I'm sitting here doing nothing, regaining my breath"
enemy -> "I shoot you with a high powered rifle, you take 2 damage."
player -> "I am recharged, I attack you with a wooden sword"
enemy -> "AHHHH!" (dies)
