to start with, any computer will do. anything over a gighz is better. Then you need to pick a language. I would suggest C or C++, but if you haven''t programmed before, maybe start with C. Get to know it thoughout. This way, when you''re ready to learn c++ the switch will be easier. Next find a compiler. Borland or Microsoft are good but expensive. you can get the gcc compiler, it''s free. There are some IDE''s that can go with it like dev-C++. Get a book like "Teach yourself C in 21 days"

Well, it depends on how serious you are about programming.
I''d recommend getting dev-C++, which is an excellent IDE(Interactive Developing Environment in case you didn''t know)
and it''s free. Go to amazon.com or some other site that has reviews on books and see what best for your learning style. If you really want to get serious, then a good compiler/IDE would be Microsoft Visual C++. Good luck with programming!
