Html and games ...
or: how does the Object tag work?
I''d appreciate it a lot if some people could write random thoughts about browser plugins.
Would it be possible to write a game as a plugin and make it possible to embed levels in html with the Object tag?
Or am I thinking about it the wrong way?
Would it require something like a virtual machine AND a plugin?
Would it be possible to use SDL that way (the runtime library would be installed on the HD) ...?
I don''t know where I should start researching ...
what related topics are important?
Are there any open source projects worth studying with the above goal in mind?
Or is it not possible at all for some reason?
Any random thoughts would be helpful.

Well the two main plug-ins I can think of being usful for making games are either Java Applets, or Flash.
Applets can be passed information via the HTML <param> tag.
Flash, which I believe does use the <object> tag can also take in parameters BUT, I don't know how. For example, I'm not sure if it can make GET, POST, and SQL queries, OR if it can only read data in from a webpage like Applets, in which case it would have to call a script which would output the data the Flash movie was after.
The only example of a Flash based MMOG I can think of is WarOnline.

Oh and I just remembered Director, also by Macromedia. Which is like a bulkier version of Flash, more for making offline content (Eg/ large movie files and such), but that can be streamed for online games (it comes with server software).
And of course Shockwave, which I have to confess I don''t know the difference between that and flash.
