Shadow "Poping"

Well, now that I have my stencil shadow app working, I''ve hit a little bump on the road. The problem is "shadow poping". I''ve introduced a small inset in the vertex shader that pushes the shadow vertices inwards a little, but when I increase the inset value further to remove all the "pops", the extruded vertices begin to show up as thin black lines along the extrusion direction. Any clue as to why this might be happening?

Bias your N.L. Bias can be calculated, don''t remember how though.

Thanks, I tried that. Though that does somewhat work, without the bias calculated properly, the poping still occurs. Any reference/article where I can find out how to calculate the bias?

Thanks again.
I got it to work. I just had to set the depth-compare function to "less" instead of "lessequal". Thanks again Sunray.
