image manipulation

Recommended Posts

I am looking for some guide on image manipulation. I know SDL can do this but what I am looking for is to draw a cockipt on the screen (as in a flightsim) and be able to manipulate certain parts of that. (for example if I would leave a small square in the pic transparent I would like to draw that cockpit, and draw stuff inthat small square. But I dont know if I should do this with SDL or opengl) or more generally, I need some game interface guide Any books, tutorials, guides that deal with this kind of situation?

all you are really doing is changing the colors of pixels on the screen. If you put your mind to it, you can theoretically do anything with those pixels. Figuring out how is your problem.

If you want to manipulate individual pixels, go with SDL. If you want shapes that can be viewed in a 3D space (or even 2D), use OpenGL. OpenGL seems to be more of what you are describing though.

Google for the OpenGL "RedBook" (free online) or the NeHe Tutorials
