What is the best way for a C++ programmer to start in DX?

Alright, so I have a friend who is a very skilled and very experienced C++ programmer. He knows c++ like the back of his hand. Now he wants to start to use his knowledge and experience and see how well he does in Game Programming, and he seems rather keen on DX for the graphical side of things over OGL. What is the best step for him to take? He has bought 4 books from amazing(yes, one is GPU Gems). Can anyone recommend any sites or online resources that might help him out? Ash.

Get your ass over to Drunken Hyena or Andy Pike; among others these are aimed at newbies DX programmers and go about explaining things well.

If he knows C++ properly the MSDN docs plus possibly a book on the math behind 3D are all he needs.
here is another good site.
