yes ... but then you are changing brightnes (gamma) using cpu power ... since you will have to do it at least 1600 * 1200 at minimum 30 frames per second ...
... isn''t there something in hardware that do this?

I don''t think Xerxes meant that you should do that yourself, just that that''s what gets done at some point.
