Whould people pay for ff3 style of game ?
I think if you marketed it as shareware (and it was quite decent) and you had a good demo that''sold'' your game well you could definately get $20-$25 I''m thinking about making an RPG myself (Havent started yet, still pondering the idea, but I would not sell it for any less)

$5 doesn''t seem like a lot, but if you''re making this game on your own, that''s $4 profit per game (I''m assuming Paypal chargesa are about 1 dollar).

$5 bucks at most, and a downloadable demo if your graphics are FF3/RPG Maker level. Maybe even donationware.
Buuut, if by "FF3" you simply mean "2D sprites and turn-based battles" instead of "FF3-resoltuion, tile-size and sprites!", you might be able to get better recognition if your game can par the rather good number of 2D RPGs that have been showing around lately, mostly on the PS2:

Such an irony. Sony was known for trying to boycott 2D games back in the PSOne, and the PS2 was supposed to be all about 3D and put an end to 2D. I disagree with the $5-$10 at most idea. When was the last time you spent that small amount on a game? There is a negitive association with having a low price and reflects somewhat subtlely on the percived quality of the game. Also people are a bit weary of getting out their credit cards for small purchases. So I insist, no less than $20
Well event if you would of sayd you wouldn''t buy it I would of do it anyway. I''m currently in the designing phase and Yes the graphics will be as similair to ff3 as possible. I''m thinking to sell it from 15 to 25 $ depending the quality of the game at the end. A web site will be done soon for this project.

Just to try and sum things up, I think the overall opinion is that the game should be priced between 10/20$. I know a few said that they would pay more, but remember that most sharware running in the upwards of 30$ range even back in the mid-ninties at sharwhare''s peak, tended to sell very few copies.
Another problem that would exist if you sell the game at 5$ is that you''d have to sell an awful lot of copies to really make it profitable. I know selling a thousand copies of your game doesn''t sound too tough but it can be. There are hundreds of thousands of games and the net. That''s a lot to cycle through.
And seeing as how you''ve got a CRPG there, it may be difficult for you to get your demos out, to people. Most sites are archives and they''ll shove your game right in there with 150 games that newbies hacked up with RPGMaker2000.
While a homepage can be a fix-all, that''s more for commercial games with a marketing budget and hype. People can''t go to your homepage until they know its there.
This post is starting to go all over the place, so I''ll stop now, and in closing say, be diligent on uploading your games to outside sites, and don''t charge more that 20$ for the game.

The "standard" price for indie games is $20 ($19.95) although many games sell for slightly more or slightly less ($14.95-$24.95). Anything over $25 is pretty rare, although cheap games for under $15 aren''t uncommon. I''d say that $20 is a good price, and $5 is ridiculously low. While there are some people that would see it as a great deal (mostly poor, hardcore gamers in highschool ) many people will feel like your game isn''t much of a game. Even if it''s a full featured RPG with 30-50 hours of gameplay and a great demo many people will be wary of it''s quality at that price. Once you finish your game and build a demo I suggest you try a few different price points, collect data on how it price affects your sales and stay at the price that gives you maximum profit. For a game with graphics like your''s, if it''s a full RPG (good story, decent play time) $25-$30 wouldn''t be asking very much.
I wouldn''t pay for a FF3-style single-player game unless it came from Squaresoft. However, if it were an FF3-style MMORPG, that''s definitely a game I would consider.
