Projection not set up and Ortho question

Hi I was just wondering if you don''t set up any projection (IE Ortho or Perspective) what does DX default to? Cause I still see my textured vertex Secondly why when working with 2d in ortho projectio is it necessary to switch of the z-buffer? Thanks Talib

DX defaults all internal matrices to Identity.
