Need testers for stupid demo

I've got a 2D sprite using 3D demo I would like for some of you HIGH-END graphic card users out there to test. This demo displays 2048 64x64 sprites, alpha-blended on a 640x480 screen. It crawls (on purpose) on my work's computer Radeon 7000. I get like 14 FPS. I am curious as to what some of the high-end cards can do with the same un-optimized code. I am going to upgrade my card soon to about a $200 card (got a 7000 at work and a 7500 at home). To exit the demo, PRESS THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON. When you are done, you should see a "FPS.LOG" file...tell me what the max FPS was. THANKS!! -cb http://signaldev.com/pub/Samus.zip

This demo looks very nice and organic, well done. You might want to try to make the quit time some lower, it gets on my nerves when a program freezes for 10 seconds first

14.20

Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz
nVidia Geforce FX 5200
512 MB SDRAM (133)

Configuration #1:
AMD Athlon (K7) 1.3GHz
ATI Radeon 9800XT (256Mb), latest drivers
DirectX 9 Summer 2004 Update, latest beta (retail runtimes)
Windows XP Pro
512Mb RAM

Results for config #1:
44.57 Samus Engine
1 min
47 max

Configuration #2:
Intel P4 (Northwood) 2.0GHz
nVidia GeForce 2 Ultra (64Mb), 6.14 drivers (don''t think they''re LDDM)
DirectX 9.0b
Longhorn (eval build)
256Mb RAM

Results for config #2:
45.01 Samus Engine
1 min
49 max

(Both configured for stability rather than absolute performance)

TBH though, for the amount you''re drawing, the performance of the graphics card will make very little difference on the frame rate - even 1997 generation cards could handle that much with ease. The bottleneck is MUCH more likely to something at the application side such as buffer lock pattern or API call frequency overhead/stalls.

That''s what I think. However, if you do the math, that means:

Number of sprites: 2048
Size of sprite: 64x64
Number of pixels in sprite: 4096
Total number of pixels drawn each frame: 8,388,608
At 14 FPS (which I get), number of pixels per second: 117,440,512
At 108 FPS (matibee got), number of pixels per second: 905,969,664

It''s just amazing...even on my low-end card...plus, these are blended at 50%!!.

Matibee''s system is pumping out almost a BILLION pixels per second...damn.

I do know my engine is NOT optimized. I am doing a draw primitive/lock for each sprite but I am having a hard time making it faster...even with batching.

Everytime I download the demo WinXP or WinZip tells me the zip file is corrupted?

Edit: Nevermind, it seems every zip file on the drive is corrupted.
