hi need help with 3ds files

i have written a program that uses lib3ds to load a 3ds file into opengl. It works fine on most of the 3ds files i download from the web, but i have a whole selection of 3ds max files and when i try to export those to 3ds format, they load, but peices of the model end up with wrong orientation and all over the place with wrong locations. I see this happen even when i load the 3ds file i generate into my mates copy of polytrans, even it wont load the 3ds files correctly. Is there something i can do in 3ds max, maybe to collapse the meshes or something. ? any advice appreciated

It might be because the models are animated and you are not loading/using the keyframes? These may position the meshes in their correct locations...just an idea as I have had similar problems before...
