suggestions needed: A Road Map for Game Development Career...

Hello, I''ve just joined the forums here, am graduation student and i''d like to take game development as a career... I''ve some experience of C++, have studied some data structures too... I have just started MFC (in my course at the univ..) I know that MFC cannot be used for game development so I have attempted to read some Windows API (Charles Petzold''s Book) on my own... And, I should say, windows API is really boring... I''ve completed around 10 chaps... Should I study the whole book? If not what should be my next move... (I''d like to go for DirectX for graphics instead of OpenGL)... Anyother suggestion? am also starting to make tetris clone... (it would be very simple without any bitmaps, animations and etc. though...) have looked at some of the articles here in the Beginners section too... Also, note that I live in Pakistan, and books (printed versions) aren''t that easily available here... so please recommend, books, which are availabe online or in electronic form...
