could someone explain to me how to call the D3DXLoadSurfaceFromResource function - i.e. how many parameters does it have, what are they, what values do I pass?

Check the DirectX documentation (either offline in the SDK, or online on MSDN).

HRESULT WINAPI D3DXLoadSurfaceFromResource( LPDIRECT3DSURFACE9 pDestSurface,
const PALETTEENTRY *pDestPalette,
const RECT *pDestRect,
HMODULE hSrcModule,
LPCTSTR pSrcResource,
const RECT *pSrcRect,
DWORD Filter,
D3DCOLOR ColorKey,

I haven''t used it myself, but YOU CAN ALWAYS TRY TO USE IT without having it correctly done. If you try yourself, you''ll learn more than when you Copy & Paste code.

I find automatic codecompleten tools (like Visual Assist (MSVC)) very handy when ''trying out'' unknown functions.

You''re Welcome,
