Hi How would I go about making a node(enemy character) follow the player in a 3D game? I''m at a complete loss as the best way to go about this? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers

While not fancy, Quake 2 accomplished by making the player drop "bread-crumbs" so to speak that the monster followed. Of course, there were some optimizations but the basic idea was that simple.

We do a similar technique on the game I work on. It's not the player who drops "bread-crumbs" though, it's the vision system of the NPC that updates his one and only "bread-crumb", so when ever the player finds a good hiding spot, the NPC won't see it anymore but will still be able to reach the last position he saw the player. When this position is reached, he can investigate to find where the player is hiding.

Hope this helps

Eric
