MS3D Normals

Does anyone know if the MS3D file format actually holds CORRECT Per-Vertex Normals? if there are two perpendicular planes, the correct vertex normal for the vertex where they meet would be something like 45 degrees.... See what I mean? Perhaps I am not very clear... What I mean is, does anyone know if the makers of MS3D actually took the time to generate correct per vertex normals, or are the normals of the models you make with MS3D just the surface normal applied per-vertex (perhaps because the writer was lazy)? I would very much like to know....

all the models in my pinball are from Milkshape and it does do proper per-vertex normal generation.. (if it did face normals then your shading whould look blocky)..

the trick with milkshape is to understand how normal smoothing groups work to come up with really nicly shaded models..
