Can OpenAL play mp3s?

OpenAL is an API for dealing with Sound Hardware.

It does some stuff for you. But it does not play that many formats natively, you have to write/find a lib that can decompress mp3s.

That being said. OpenAL supports wav, and (not in main distribution yet I believe) ogg vorbis audio.

fmod supports mp3, and you don''t have to pay any royalties if you''re not selling your project. I think it runs on top of DirectSound, but I''m not sure. Anyway, I''m using it, and it seems rather good...
