Problem with ComputeNormals

hi all I am trying to make my mesh look good and optimized but the problem is that every time I call it the mesh becomes flat. I know panda exporter have a "optimize" feature.. that spouse to weld vertices.. "optimize forces a 3 vertices per face output for optimization" and with "optimize" it works.. but I want to know how they are doing it.. because I tried to do it with weld vertices with dx mesh viewer and it didn’t look good, and suggestions?
