Hi, I have recently started learning managed DX (from DX8 in VB6)... I figured out most of it by myself and MSDN, but I can't figure out how to do very simple keyframe animation. Does DirectX9 have its own animation class, or must I do it manually? Any references to tutorials or something are greatly appreciated... Personally I would go and get an animation Directx book to really help you out. Search google too there are quite a few out there... In many cases you will find non managed directx examples, but if your a solid developer you can transpose most of it fairly easily.

One thing that makes it a bit easier too, is if you have a program(3d program) that can create animations for you and then use the directx file loader to load it and use it.

All mine are non-animated right now, but I have a good animated book from The Premier Press and I know others exist.

There of course is a difference between sprite animation(I think is how its termed) for 2d and 3d "mesh" animation with bones etc.

I know that doesn''t tell you "how" but I hope at least it gives you a wider space to look at.

Basically, I made a VERY simple person ( boxes for everything) in Milkshape, just as a test. I added a simple skeleton, and set it up to do a simple arm-waving animation. Anyway, now I wanted to try and import it into DX, but I can''t figure it out... I want to be able to just load the keyframe/animation data from the file and do it. I realize I can do it manually, but I do not want to spend days of my life setting up an entire class full of complicated math and algorithms if DX can do it for me.

I went to MSDN online, but they have no tutorials or examples... All they had was a page about the AnimationController class which just showed all the member functions with brief explainations...

The only book I saw (on amazon) was ''Advanced Animation for Direct3D'', and many of the reviewers said it was very bad. I really don''t need/want a book, either. I just want to learn the basics, then I can carry myself from there...
