C# Mesh AttributeTable

I have a Direct3D Mesh in a C# program, and I would like to obtain the attribute table from it. So, I call Optimize with OptimizeAttrSort as the sole flag. As far as I know this is the only thing that people forget to do before failing to get the attribute table, but I did it. I then call GetAttributeTable(), and I get a generic Direct3DXException. I can get the attribute buffer, and there appears to be the correct number of attributes in it. I thought that perhaps the attribute table is not generated if all faces have the same attributeID. That''s the only way I can explain this behavior, but it doesn''t seem likely. Any ideas?
