I am just starting out 3D programing using DirectX and am wondering if what I have bellow is correct? You use the world transformation to put objects in the 3d-world and converting objects local coordinates to world. You use the View transformation to orientate the world around a point. eg. moving the world in a first person game. You use the projection transformation to flatten 3d world into a 2d image to display. And converting world coordinates to screen coordinates. thanks in advance.

I think, you are right.

For a complete description, see the DirectX c++ documentation given with the SDK, these thing are in DirectX Graphics / Programming Guide / The Fixed Function Pipeline / Transforms.
