Hi there, does anyone out there know a way to get a pointer to the opengl color and depth buffers in win32. I know that I can use glReadPixels() and glCopyPixels() but these are way to slow. Any help would be appreciated as I dont want to use DirectX. Cheers.

Unfortunately, it''s not possible to get a pointer to the buffers in OpenGL, on any platform.

I assume you want the pointers so your application code can write to them directly. If this is the case, you should look into glDrawPixels() and glReadPixels(). They allow you to read or write a pixel rectangle from any buffer and in a variety of formats. Note that if you''re using an ICD or MCD (accelerated) instead of Microsoft''s generic implementation (non-accelerated), glDrawPixels() and glReadPixels() can be very slow.

Hope this helps.

as a side note (only for nvidia users) the detonator3 drivers are ±20 times quicker than detonator2 + earlier for reading from + drawing to the frame buffer
