Direct X palettes
Okay, what I am trying to do is load up a bitmap background(8 bit), and a player sprite on top of it(also 8 bit ).
I have successfuly managed to get the background bitmap up, but what I want to know is as follows:
after loading up the first bitmap and setting up the palette for it (lpddpal->SetEntries(blah, blah, blah)), do you do the same with another palette pointer (lpddpal2 perhaps?) or do you use the same palette pointer?
You should make sure that the palettes of the two bitmaps are the same. Use Paint Shop Pro or something to do this. Otherwise you are screwed. You should only change the palette once...

Dwarfsoft, I used MSPaint to do my bitmaps - does it matter?
In any case, you use the one palette yeah?
During set up you:
- load in the background
- set the palette
- load the sprite bitmap
- set palette to that
- create the BOB??
Am I on the right track, or do you load in the background and the sprite bitmap files, create the bob THEN set the palette?

Using paint I think you have a defined palette. But you might want to check Jasc Software and d d/l a free copy of PSP. At least then you can check the palettes . And you should only ever load the palette once. Otherwise you may distort the colors (if the palette is different that is )

Thanks for the replies, sorry to bother you again, but there is one more thing - I managed to get both the background and the tank bitmap on screen - kind of.
The background is fine, but the tank bitmap keeps flickering on and off really fast as if it's trying to cause an epilectic reaction.
Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?
Oh, BTW, PaintShop, is it by any chance freeware, or do I need to register it after 30 days
Later.
