Well, a small part of it anyway. Let me tell you guys something about what I hope to accomplish in this forum. Many of you are familiar with my belief that we''ve only scratched the surface of the possible techniques that exist for making things like divergent plotlines and ambient literary environments. I want us to try and make some of those guidelines. We should provoke each other with the same kind of energy that''s been crackling in these forums for the past few months... we should endeavor to forge some new rules for this new medium. Of course you can post prose samples here, and look for a critique. Of course we can talk about the best way to implement current RPG structure for writers... But that stuff doesn''t interest me as much as the possibility to contributing something fantastically important to the game community. If you see something good here, by all means type it up as a dissertation and repost it to the site, or better yet, for public consumption on your own site (with individual author permission of course...) There will be plenty of Professionally rendered Landfish art on my Website (that''s why it''s taking so long...) but rest assured, the Landfish is still stomach-turningly ugly, but kinda cute at the same time...

My artist thanks you ahw. But there was an old pic of the Landfish that was much uglier, I thik that''s what he''s on about. nes8bit has a copy, I think.

I know...we haven't talked about Landfish's plan for even a moment. I think it's all my fault too.

There's just something so ominous and frightening about Landfish w/ a master plan. Images of impaled bodies of developers that make games with murder-based experience systems comes to mind....I'd really rather not think about it *shudders*

To bring this back on topic so I''m not a coplete hppocrite for just closing someone''s thread...

I think it''s great that GDNetters have shown such an interest in doing things in a new, different way. I''ve tried to get a foot in the door on other boards to no avail. Maybe it''s because we''re pretty much entirely independants and amatuers that we are more receptive to the idea of change.

Now to bring this thread compleatly off topic again , what the hell was that guy thinking asking for a game engine in the writing forum?!?

Anyway....I agree that being non-professional can help with being open-minded. It''s so easy to do cookie cutter stuff when that''s all you do all day. I do that with my real job, but with games, I try to think outside the box. Maybe people who work on games should get more paid vacation!!

The absolute same phemomenon occurs in the music industry, or any other creative industry. If something puts food on your table, you''re not going to be in any rush to take a big risk by changing all the rules. The status quo will be fine, thanks.

We indies, however, aren''t clearing any money, more often than not, we lose money on games. Changing all the rules (or writing new ones) is our only hope to make a profit. And so we charge valiantly into the fray...
