That's the banner ads. It does that to me at work. I'm pretty sure its the firewall. After the post page comes up just hit the stop button.

whenever im typing my post, it interupts and goes to a page that results in a 404, without me doing anything, although some may say that this is a good thing, its scary

It only does that in IE, and it's because the ad server isn't responding. I've turned the ads of on the forums at least until the problem gets fixed.
