Hi all. I was wondering if it's possible to use UDP with Winsock Asych sockets. If yes, how would one go about doing this (in terms of changes from TCP), and do you recommend coding a server this way or just making it non-blocking? Thanks, Jeff

Correct.

You can implement non-blocking I/O for UDP.

I highly recommend Network Programming for Microsoft Windows, Second Edition by Anthony Jones and Jim Ohmund.

Another option would also be to look at the Quake II 3.21 full source package and look in the file net_wins.c (I believe that's the one) which contains all the code responsible for starting up a non-blocking UDP Winsock socket. It also shows how to make it broadcast capable if you're interesting and I find is easier to understand than the lacking documentation contained in the MSDN.

Just another options anyways ^_^,
