First of all, I'm still wondering why the thread has been closed, moderators should think twice before closing an innocent thread, this becomes a bit too common on Gamedev IMO... You can export files with GMAX, not only in the proprietary format, there are Maxscripts out there that can do this job and work with GMAX. [Links to illegal pages removed]. GMax is not intended as a commercial modelling program. A developer that wishes to allow the end user to create their own models will have to come up with there own model format, pay discreet a ton of money, then send out the program with their game. That way, the end user can make and alter model from that game ONLY. It is so modding a game can be much easier for the user and they won't need any extra complex/expensive software. When you think about it, it is a very good idea.

If you still want to use it and you have a few thousand bucks laying around, you would be better off just buying 3DS Max. Otherwise, you will need to settle for a free/cheap 3D modeller.

I use Milkshape personally. It was nearly free (like $25), because it is easy to use, it has lots of features, and tons of plugins. Another popular free modeler is Blender. It has a weird UI, but once mastered is a very powerful program.

The use of any gMax Maxscript exporter is a violation of the gMax EULA. Importing is fine, but exporting is expressly forbidden except for those formats that developers have paid to have made exportable.

.
Hacking GMax so that it exports into formats other than the supported game packs is illegal, and a violation of Discreets license agreement.

Links to illgal GMax cracks removed from original topic, thread closed, and warning level increased. Bucheron, you should be aware that posting links to warez related material can get you banned from GDNet faster than you might think.
