2D Sprites

Recommended Posts

I think most of the time, sprites start as 3d models. Images are taken of them at different animations and from different angles. Animation will look more realistic, and lighting can be applied to the model which will make the sprites to appear turely 3D. Correct me if im wrong, but 3ds max and a number of other modeling packages have tools for doing just this. Edit: IMO, it would look really awsome if you applied cell shading to the mesh!

http://noadi.cywh.com/gameart.html is a good page to start. Follow the links at the bottom which are also really good.

The http://pixeltutorial.cjb.net/ link to So You Want To Be A Pixel Artist? is especially helpful.
