i'm just wondering if there is a standard procedure that will allow me to let the user customize the looks of their character (something along the lines of a smackdown game, EA sports game or an rpg). I figure that making this feature work will vary upon the engine that is used but i'm hopeing that there is a common thinking that i should know about. if anyone has any tips or articles/tutorials i can read, that would be great. thanks -Shifty

Nope. You just have to allow the characters of the game be customizable. You have to have mesh and textures for each preference they choose. You can do a little trick using greyscale textures, letting them choose colors, then colorizing the textures on the fly. Every customizable part of a character can be put to use with NPCs as well, since your editor or data files can gives these same details.
