Well, my game is working fine. I took it to work to show my friends and of course it wouldn't startup ! It kept complaining it couldn't find the glut32.dll and then the open32.dll (for sound). I thought when you created an exe under VC++ that it linked all this stuff in anyhow. So my question (proably very simple) is this: How can I make the dlls are already in the exe - I can't expect a user to crawl through the web hunting down dlls and loading them into the precise corect place on windows ? cheers

Just have your users download them at a DLL site. They are easy enough to find if you google for them. Put them either in the same folder as your .exe in or in the winsdow's system folder.

yes but the casual gamer/user doesn't want to do that - they just want to click the exe and let everything work.

Well.. what can I say? It doesn't work that way. DLLs are Dynamically Linked Libraries. That's why they are external. Your program gets what it requires from them at runtime. To statically link them would defeat the whole point.

Maybe you can distribute them with your game? Check the liscenses of th .dlls to see if they allow for it. I think maybe there is a static library version of glut somewhere. I don't know what Open32.dll is from. OpenAL?
