Muti-Texturing or 3 QUADS?

hi i just wanna know which is faster i am drawing a 49x49 tiles, with some of them having multituxture(3 layers) for my rpg game. i just wanna know if it is better to draw 3 QUADS drawn on top of each other or do multi-texturing?

I think multitexturing is faster because with the quad way you draw the map like 3 times but multitexturing may not work on some pc's hehe :P Which should be a very old machine I think :D

You'll still find plenty of hardware with only two texture units (GeForce2 level and below) so requiring 3 simultaneously could be a bit harsh on the requirements. Multitexturing will be faster though, so you could autodetect the number of texture units and switch between the two as needed. (Bonus points for detecting hardware with two texture units and doing it with 2 quads). [grin]
