"UNICODE-build" in MSVC++6 ?

I tried to compile the sample-framework of the "DirectX SDK 9.0c (Summer 2004)" and had some problems that i got fixed after a while. but there is one thing I can't get around:

fatal error C1189: #Fehler : "The sample framework requires a Unicode build. If you are using Microsoft Visual C++ .NET, under the General tab of the project properties change the Character Set to 'Use Unicode Character Set'."
So as I don't use Net, but version 6 I wonder if its possible to do a UNICODE-build then?! thanx, snAKe
