OpenGL Shape Coordinates

When people want to draw a shape(in OpenGL), do they set down with graph paper to figure out the xyz(used for glVector3f of course), or is there some secret way to do this faster? Thanks in advance.

Either you can setup a mathematical model for it, and then you plug equations into your engine, or you have to use a 3D modeling software to perform any arbitrary shape.

What kind of shape are talking about ?
