[.net] colorful icons
Inexperienced with modern windows development, but it seems that the icon editor that comes with Visual C++ .net 2003 has only 16 colors available. Aren't there more colorful icons, or does everyone use clever dithering? Also how do I associate an icon with an application like the pros do?
Use an external application that can create .ico files, or write a utility to convert any source format to .ico.
Professionals don't create their icons and other visual assets within Visual Studio. They have art departments (or tools) to do that.

Thanks. So you're saying that the icon editor is not fully capable and a different program would be better.
As for my second question, I didn't mean to ask how the pros create their icons- rather, how does one change an application's icon to a custom icon, rather than the default. Can that be done in .NET through some settings or feature, or is there another way to it?
Oh. It depends on the IDE you're using, but it's in the Projects -> <Project Name> Settings... dialog, in the Application tab for Visual C# 2005 beta. There's an item named, appropriately enough, Application Icon:.
Per window, use the System.Windows.Forms.Form.Icon property.

Wait, wait! Don't go spending loads of dosh on another icon editor yet!
If you are talking about Visual Studio 2003, you can change its device settings, you can also have 256 colours and 24 bit colour!
