Is it me or is separating templates into .h and .cpp files currently supported in GCC and VC Express? I had a few minutes to test this yesterday and I got no linker errors but I didn't get the chance to actually run the test program. I can't check this in the next 7 hours, could someone shed some light on this?

It all depends on how you compile it. If you got no linker errors (on GCC anyways), you've probably done everything right. And if it dosn't work, just add an:

#include "implementation.cpp"

at the bottom of your h file and you should be set (which is what I do right now, since it's simple and easy).

If you want to get into more details, investigate gcc's -frepo flag .
