Printing text on a mesh object

Anyone have a good idea how to print text on a mesh object I loaded from an .X file? Create a texture real time and put the texture on the mesh?

You can write to a surface (which can be a texture... frame buffer... etc, using IDirect3DSurface9 functions) of a mesh using GDI (for simplicity). If that's what you want, and you need help, reply and I can post some code to get your started ;)
