Model with fast Morph-Animation?

Hello, i'd like to use character-modells with morph-animation. So i have the vertex-positions for at least two (time-)frames and i want to "blend" these between these. On the other hand, i'll have to display many of these objects at once and so the solution has to be fast. So is there any way (perhaps an extension) with which i could do something link blending between to vertex-buffer-objects? Of course, vertex-shader are one solution, but is there another? Thanx, SGrottel. (You can keep typos you find.)
