I heard that Sony is gonna adopt the OpenGL API for it s next generation console PS3, is that gonna happen for real? and what impact it should have on game developers to have the PS3 OpneGL compatible since it s maybe, along with DirectX, the most famous APIs?

OpenGL is a general pupose 3D API, and making it the standard for a very capable gaming console is not a wise idea.
Maybe there will be an OpenGL wrapper that facilitates the programming of PS3, but not the only interface.

I own a playstation2-linux kit. Sony is experimenting with the OpenGL api as a possible way of allowing programmers to write games with graphics right now. As previously mentioned, it won't be the only way... but a way. There is already an OpenGL interface for the ps2 but it is very slow. We all use SPS2 which allows us to touch the hardware directly instead because it is much faster.

If you are interested in coding with OpenGL on PS2, look at ps2gl.

"ps2gl has been under development at SCEA R&D for about a year and a half now. It was originally developed for game development and then ported to Linux for the PlayStation2. The overriding goal of ps2gl is speed -- this has influenced both the design and the API. "
