does directx change in any way my number of drawprimitive calls ?

I'm running NVPerfHUD on GeForce3 and it displays number of DP calls per frame. If I call only one DP NVPerfHUD shows that I call 2-5 depending on my camera position and orientation. Even worse. I got simple vertex buffer which holds 64 triangle strips. If I do loop that calls 64 DP each for different strip NVPerfHUD shows that I call 2 - 67 DP againg depending on my position but if I call DP just once for the whole buffer I still got the same! Is that some NVPerfHUD bug or what?
