#include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { int pause; cout << "7 + 3 =" << 7 + 3 = << endl; cin pause; return 0; } the cin line gets a dark red line at the bottom under the compiler tab i get: parse error before ';' token, so of course, it doesn't compile. i also get [Warning] In function `int main()': under the compiler tab what am i missing?

Try getting rid of the = so your line looks like:

cout << "7 + 3 =" << 7 + 3 << endl;

And add a >> to the cin line so it looks like:
cin >> pause;
