artistic rendering in MMOs
I'm designing an MMO, and i was wondering if there was a certain software that really stands out for 3d model rendering or landscape generating or such. Also, do I need to learn a programming language of any sort to deal with these programs?
I personally use Milkshape 3D which is free for 30 days, and after that costs a minimal fee of 20USD. No programming is required to use.
IMO, landscapes should NOT be prerendered with a mesh. You're much better off using heightmaps. (do a Google Search)
As for actually making a MMO, yes, you will need a programming language (unless you purchase a premade engine... but even then you still need to know some) and a good background - the dynamics of MMOs are huge - they consist not only of the game itself (client) but server programs (servers) that govern everything. So I'd start with something simpler...
